Prosperity, Mobility and Demographic Change in European Cities

Wohlstand, Mobilität und demographischer Wandel in europäischen Städten (Programm auf Deutsch: vgl. u.)

The process of demographic change has its roots in developments over the past 50 years, but it is only now that the enormous implications are starting to become evident. The principal drivers and trends of these developments have generally speaking already been identified, analyzed and described, for example in the recent European Green Paper "Confronting demographic change: a new solidarity between the generations" (COM(2005) 94) and in the Communication from the Commission on immigration, integration and employment (COM(2003) 336). However, the consequences for various spheres of society and the appropriate actions to be taken - e.g. by transport planning and policy - are, by and large, still unexplored.

In cooperation with EA.UE and the Technical University Berlin (department: transport planning) the Berlin Senate Department of Urban Development is organizing two conferences on future issues of demographic change and transport planning. The Project is supported by the European Commission.
